The SPACEL is a trademark of machine room less elevator model of Toshiba Elevator and Building Systems Corporation.
Description[]
SPACEL is Toshiba's only lineup of passenger machine room less elevator models for low to mid rise buildings. It can be installed in virtually almost any types of buildings, such as shopping centers, residential buildings, hotels, office buildings, hospitals, transport facilities, etc. SPACEL is sold in Japan and the rest of Asia as well as the Middle East. As of 2020, the models that are currently produced and sold are; SPACEL-GR II, Order SPACEL-GR II and SPACEL-III.
Development of SPACEL began in 1998 after Toshiba entered into a strategic alliance with Finnish giant Kone as a mean of developing a machine room less elevator with assistance from Kone. Under this alliance, Toshiba began producing licensed Kone MonoSpace elevators in Japan under the "SPACEL" brand; apart from several components, it used the Kone EcoDisc hoisting motor. However some time later, Toshiba dropped the EcoDisc motor on their newer models and replaced it with Toshiba's own motor, which is cylindrical and uses a much smaller sheave to accommodate the number of ropes used.
Its main competitors in the Japanese market are Mitsubishi AXIEZ, Hitachi UrbanAce, Fujitec XIOR and Otis Gen2 Premier. Elsewhere in Asia, this model competes with Mitsubishi's NEXIEZ-MRL and Elenessa, Hitachi's OUG/UAG series, LCA, LGE and LF-MRL, Xizi Otis/Otis Electric Gen2-Regen, Gen3, thyssenkrupp Evolution, TK enta100/200/300, Schindler 3300, 5400 AP, 5500, 3000, 5000, and Fujitec's REXIA model.
The SPACEL is not produced by Toshiba's subsidiaries Mashiba in Malaysia and GFC in Taiwan because they have their own machine room less model.
