Stigler was an elevator company established in 1860 in Milan, Italy. It was the first elevator manufacturer in Italy. Stigler produced passenger, freight, and other types of service elevators. The headquarters was located at Via Galileo 45, Milan, Italy.

Stigler was founded by Auguste Stigler, a German engineer who studied at Zurich Polytechnic Institite. A few years after his graduation, he moved to Milan, Italy where he started his elevator company "Stigler" in 1860. In 1870, the first Stigler elevator was installed at the Grand Hotel Costanzi in Rome. The elevator was hydraulic which caused a great sensation because at that time, development of elevators was almost unheard in both Italy and the rest of the world. A year later, Stigler installed its second hydraulic elevator at the same hotel without delay. In 1884, the company was passed to Auguste Stigler II who graduated from Milan Polytechnic, and in 1895, Stigler installed its first ever electric elevator.

Stigler introduced its elevators to Great Britain in 1900 and since then, there had been a great number of Stigler elevators installed throughout the British empire. Shortly after that, the company experienced mass production of elevators, and because of this, the company decided to expand its business by opening agencies/distributors in several countries to cope with the huge demand of elevators. In 1910, Stigler had produced 10.000 elevators and by 1930 the company reached 35.000 units. The company was then passed over to Auguste Stigler III. Finally in 1947, Stigler was bought by Otis and at the same time the company had produced 45.000 elevators. After the takeover, Otis began installing elevators in Italy under the name "Stigler-Otis" until 1987[1].
