Description[]
Schindler 5500 is a gearless traction elevator model that comes as Mini Machine Room (MMR) and machine roomless (MRL) type, designed for low to high rise commercial and residential buildings. It is the replacement of Schindler EuroLift and 5400 EU/5400 AP models, as well as Schindler NeoLift in Brazil and Latin American countries. This model was initially released in 2011, before it was officially introduced worldwide in 2013[4]. In the United States and Canada, it was launched in December 2014, which is a replacement for the Schindler 400AE elevator. In California, the Schindler 5500 elevator was not sold, because it did not meet California code, until 2019.
Schindler 5500 found its successor in Schindler 5000, announced in June 2020. It is a "digital" successor, and was first launched in Europe. As of 2024, it is not sold worldwide, notably in North America, where Schindler continues to retain its "traditional" offer of low- to mid-rise elevators, composed of the models 3100, 3300, 3300 XL and 5500, as well as 330A hydraulic elevator. Generally discontinued in most of the world's continents, however, Schindler 5500 remains listed alongside its successor, Schindler 5000, in such countries as France[5], Spain[6] and Portugal[7], while in Norway, where the Schindler 5000 was never listed, it became succeeded by Schindler 6000, 5000's sister model, when it launched in 2024[8] being sold alongside the predecessor.
The model uses Schindler Suspension Traction Media coated steel belts which replaces traditional steel ropes, similar to Schindler 3300. Schindler 5500 can run at speeds of 1.0 m/s to 3.0 m/s (meter per second). The limit to how high the Schindler 5500 can travel is 150 meters or 50 floors.
All Schindler 5500 elevator cabs comes with choice of four different interior designs; Navona, Times Square, Park Avenue, and Sunset Boulevard. These interior designs are nearly identical to the ones in Schindler 3300 elevators. Despite those are provided, custom cab design for the building are also available depending the contract between the building owners and the contractors.
It is also possible to be integrated with the PORT destination dispatch system and can accommodate up to 8 elevator groups.
In Mainland China, the name of this model is Schindler 5500 AP.
