Otis ReGen

Otis ReGen is an elevator regenerative drive produced by Otis Elevator Company. Otis does NOT use it on HydroFit elevators, and at writing, it is not very common. Most of the time, it is used in skyscrapers, such as the Otis SkyRise which is a standard feature, as well as Otis Gen2.

Overview

ReGen drives feed energy usually lost during braking back into the building's internal electrical grid, where it can be used by other loads or users connected to the same network. The energy converter unit of the drive can modulate the feedback energy by Plus-Width Modulation (PWM) to the power which has the same frequency (50Hz) and voltage (380V) as the building's internal grid.

When the elevator is traveling downward with heavy load or traveling upward with light load, the reduced potential energy will convert into power energy. The converted power will be recycled and filtered by the ReGen drive, and fed back to the internal grid.

Benefits

ReGen drives are ideal for low- and mid-rise residential and commercial buildings. They lower overall building operating costs, delivering significant annual savings to building owners and tenants year after year during the life of the elevator. This drive also uses up to 70% less energy than non-regenerative drive for equivalent elevator motion.
