Elevator Wiki

Motala Hissar AB is a Swedish manufacturer of chain driven platform lifts, based in the company's namesake of Motala, Sweden. Formerly a subsidiary of Kone AB - the Swedish subsidiary of the Kone Corporation - it is since August 2021 owned by Aritco Group AB, another Swedish manufacturer of platform lifts, but retains fully autonomous corporate identity and product line.

The company was established in 1972 and initially made freight elevators before it switched to making platform lifts in the 1980s. Kone owned the company since 1990s[1].

In 2014, Motala Hissar, in association with Kone launched the Kone ProSpace, a self supporting elevator with a pit of only 10 cm and can be installed in narrow staircases in both existing and newly built buildings. It uses Kone's fixtures, primarily KSS 280, and LCE controller, and is a successor of Motala Hissar's MC6000 model.

In January 2020, the UK based The Platform Lift Company formed a partnership with Motala Hissar. The Platform Lift Company has been the sole distributor of Motala Hissar platform lifts in the United Kingdom.[2].

Kone sold its shareholding in Motala Hissar AB to Aritco in July 2021; the deal became offective on August 31[1]. Aritco belongs to Investment AB Latour (through Latour Industries AB) which, in 2024, formed Innovalift AB, a subsidiary which groups all the elevator manufacturing assets of Latour, including Aritco, Motala Hissar and Vega[3]. Kone continues to distribute certain rebranded products, including Kone Motala platform lifts on the British isles, and hoisting systems for ProSpace elevators (which use Kone's fixtures and LCE/KCE controllers).

Products[]

  • Motala 2000: Platform lift without cabin.
  • Motala 6000LS: Cabin lift, can also be used for existing buildings without an elevator.
  • Kone ProSpace: Self supporting machine room less elevator that can be installed in a narrow staircase, usually for existing buildings which initially didn't have an elevator. The model was launched in 2014 in association with Kone (hence it is also marketed by Kone) and it is a successor of Motala Hissar's MC6000 model due to its similar design.
  • Motala MC6000: Motala's past product. Discontinued and succeeded by the Kone ProSpace.
