Končar is a now defunct elevator company that operated in most of Yugoslavia. It was a division of Končar conglomerate, which makes electricity generators, railway infrastructure, switches, electromotors and home appliances. Končar produced elevators under license from Rheinstahl Eggers-Kehrhahn (later Thyssen). The company was named after the leader of the Yugoslav Partisans in the Independent State of Croatia and Dalmatia during the early stages of World War II in Yugoslavia.
Its elevator division was bought by ThyssenKrupp in 2007 and merged into ThyssenKrupp Končar. Later the Končar name was dropped.
History[]
Končar started producing elevators in the early 1970s. In 1971. they made a contract with Rheinstahl Eggers-Kehrhahn in which they agreed to collaborate in the production of elevators, escalators and moving walks as were produced by REK. They also acquired the license to Ziehl-Abegg single and multi-speed motors in the same year. Their expansion continued as they acquired RADNIK in 1973 (which would leave Končar group in 1989. to form an independent company under the name of SERVIS DIZALA).
Končar produced elevators under license from REK (later Thyssen) throughout the 1970s, 1980s and early 1990s. Those were often branded as Končar-Thyssen and featured installation year and serial number badge written in German language[1]; Končar was one of the only few escalator manufacturers in the Eastern Bloc, the other notable example was a Czechoslovak enterprise Transporta. Končar produced many elevator models available suited for various needs: from simple relay controlled single-speed without car doors to high-speed microcontroller-based (MISUD) systems.
Starting in the late 1990s, they switched to installing generic equipment in their lifts.
In 2007, ThyssenKrupp bought Končar's elevator division, turning it into ThyssenKrupp Končar. From this point they made generic elevators under the ThyssenKrupp Končar name, using some parts from ThyssenKrupp. The Končar name was later dropped in 2013 as the company became known only as ThyssenKrupp.
Fixtures[]
In their over 40 years of operation, Končar used various fixtures in their lifts, beginning with RADNIK fixtures after their acquisition in 1973. Some proprietary fixtures were also produced at this time. In the mid 1970s the first licensed elevators were produced, which used Stahl fixtures. Končar kept using these fixtures with minor changes until the early 2000s when they started producing generic elevators.
