1960s-1970s

LT 18 (?)

In the 1970s, the buttons were round plastic that protrudes from the panel and lights up when pressed.

Buttons and indicator lamps

Style 28 Q/R

These buttons and indicator lamps were introduced sometime in the 1980s. The buttons can be square or round buttons. Note that the square version is indicated by "Q" while the round version is indicated by "R".

• MT 28: Protruding square or round push button (MT means "Micro (push) button")
• ET 28: Square touch sensitive button with illuminating halo and with or without marking (ET means "Electronic (touch sensitive/capacitive) button")
• PT 28: Flushed square stainless steel push button with a dot lamp on the top left corner (PT means "Armour button")
• MA 28: Square, round or arrow shaped indicator lamp (MA means "Micro indicator")

For MT series buttons and indicator lamps, there are additional characters ("X", "XX", "XXX" or "X XX") added at the end of the model name which indicates the cap design used in the buttons and/or indicator lamps:

• M: Stainless steel, for square buttons
• M LED: Stainless steel with a dot lamp on the top left corner, for square buttons
• P: Polycarbonate which lights up entirely when pressed, for square buttons
• P LED: Polycarbonate with a dot lamp on the top left corner, for square buttons
• LR: Stainless steel with illuminating halo, for square buttons
• RLR: Stainless steel with illuminating halo, for round buttons
• RP: Polycarbonate which illuminates entirely, for round buttons
• LP: Polycarbonate which illuminates entirely, for arrow indicator lamps

The MT 28 M LED buttons were commonly used by Thyssen in the 1980s and Haushahn from the 1980s until the late 1990s. Other variations of button were also used by other elevator companies as well, such as Lift Munich. Style 28 buttons were also used in DAN and some MacGregor marine elevators installed in cruise ships built in the 1980s and early 1990s. However, some of these elevators have been modernized with newer but nearly identical style Schaefer buttons in the 2000s.

Floor indicators and hall lanterns

In the 1980s and 1990s, Schaefer made floor indicators with either a digital segments or LED dot matrix display. These indicators are integrated into the car station or just installed separately above the elevator door. Sometimes, indicators above door are accompanied by triangle shaped lanterns.

2000s-current

Buttons and indicator lamps

Schaefer makes different types of buttons and indicator lamps (e.g. out of service, over load, intercom light, emergency light, etc.). Note that the square version is indicated by "Q" while the round version is indicated by "R". For Style 42 E, since the buttons and indicator lamps are elliptical, they are indicated by "E".

Since March 2018, if Style 42, 42 E and 45 push buttons and indicator lamps are used in elevator or fixtures modernization, a "MOD" is placed at the end of the model name.

Style 28 Q/R

These are square or round buttons and indicator lamps. Schaefer continues making these fixtures for more than 30 years after they were introduced in the 1980s.

Style 37 Q/R

These are convex square or round push buttons and indicator lamps. The buttons have anodized aluminum plate with a halo that lights up when pressed, as well as grey or black frame.

• B 37 Q/R: Square/round push button
• D 37 Q/R: Square/round indicator lamp with a black background
• D 37 Q/R EL: Square/round emergency light without marking

Style 42 (Square)

These are square push buttons and indicator lamps. MT is the push button while MA is the indicator lamp.

• MT 42: Stainless steel button with illuminating halo, or both illuminating halo and marking
• MA 42: Indicator lamp with marking (such as lift coming, overload, intercom light, etc.)
• MA 42 M: Indicator lamp with stainless steel plate, the halo lights up
• MA 42 P: Indicator lamp with plastic plate which lights up entirely
• MA 42 P LC: Similar to MA 42 P but with a black background (LC stands for Low Current)
• MA 42 EL: Emergency light without marking
• MA 42 W: Directional arrow indicator with stainless steel plate

If MT 42 buttons are used in elevator or fixtures modernization, a "MOD" is placed at the end of the model name.

Style 42 (Round)

These are round push buttons and indicator lamps. RT is the push button while RA is the indicator lamp.

• RT 42: Stainless steel button with illuminating halo. It can be fitted with marking, illuminating number or tactile/braille.
• RA 42: Indicator lamp with marking
• RA 42 LC: Indicator lamp with black background (LC stands for Low Current)
• RA 42 EL: Emergency light without marking
• RA 42 S: "Out Of Order" ("Ausser Betrieb") indicator lamp
• RA 42 W: Directional arrow indicator with stainless steel plate

If RT 42 buttons and RA 42 indicator lamps are used in elevator or fixtures modernization, a "MOD" is placed at the end of the model name. The waterproof version of RT 42 and RA 42 is known as "RT 42 wg" and "RA 42 wg" respectively.

Style 42 E

These are ellipse shaped push buttons and indicator lamps. Schaefer marketed these buttons as "EPSILON Button".

• EB 42: Stainless steel button with illuminating halo
• EBM 42: Stainless steel button with illuminating halo and two additional lamps on the left
• ED 42: Indicator lamp with stainless steel plate and marking
• ED 42 LC: Indicator lamp with black background (LC stands for Low Current)
• ED 42 EL: Emergency light without marking

If EB 42 buttons and ED 42 indicator lamps are used in elevator or fixtures modernization, a "MOD" is placed at the end of the model name.

Style 42 Vandalism Proof

These are round vandal resistant buttons with a raised frame. VB stands for "Vandalism Button".

• VB 42: With tactile and illuminating halo. There is also a version with black aluminium.
• VB 42 M: With dot lamp only. There is also a version with black braille plate attached to the button.
• VD 42: Indicator lamp (with illuminating halo) and possibly emergency light

Style 45 Q/R

These are convex square or round buttons and indicator lamps.

• B 45 Q/R - stainless steel push button with illuminating halo or both an illuminating halo and marking
• D 45 Q/R - indicator lamp with stainless steel plate and marking
• D 45 Q/R EL - emergency light without marking
• Directional arrow indicator lamps with black stainless steel plate (unknown model)

If B 45 buttons and D 45 indicator lamps are used in elevator or fixtures modernization, a "MOD" is placed at the end of the model name.

Style 50 Q/R

These are similar to Style 45 except that they are larger.

• B 50 Q/R - square/round stainless steel push button with illuminating halo or both an illuminating halo and marking
• B 50 Q/R fb - square/round remotely operated button, with illuminating halo and tactile only
• B 50 Q/R Class 3+ - square/round remotely operated button, with illuminating halo, tactile, braille and black frame
• D 50 Q/R - square/round indicator lamp with stainless steel plate and marking
• D 50 Q/R EL - square/round emergency light without marking
• P 50 Q/R - square/round illuminating field
• W 50 Q/R - square/round directional arrow indicator lamps with black stainless steel plate

Style 56

These are large size square or round push buttons. These buttons look similar to the MT 28 series except that they are larger.

• MT 56 - square/round push button (MT means "Micro button")
• PT 56 - square push button (PT means "Armour button")

For the buttons, there are additional characters ("X", "XX" or "XXX") placed at the end of the model name which indicates the cap design used in the buttons:

• M - stainless steel with a dot lamp on the top left corner, for square buttons
• B - full colored aluminium with a dot lamp on the top left corner, for square buttons
• MB - partial colored aluminium with a dot lamp on the top left corner, for square buttons
• P - polycarbonate, either illuminates entirely or has a dot lamp on the top left corner, for square buttons
• LR - stainless steel with illuminating halo, for square buttons
• RLR - stainless steel with illuminating halo, for round buttons

Ex-proof

Ex-proof are heavy duty fixtures designed to withstand the impact caused by explosion. They are usually used for industrial or outdoor applications.

Rainbow Buttons (RB)

These are glass touch sensitive buttons for use in Schaefer GLASS Select and Smart Tableau basic glass fixtures. There are two versions of these buttons:

• RB 42 - Rectangle button with an oval motif
• RB 50 - Blank square button

LCD displays

Schaefer makes different types of LCD TFT displays. There is also Haptic TOUCH which is a touch screen display.

Dial indicators

Schaefer also makes vintage looking dial indicators with mechanical dial. These indicators can be half-moon or round shaped, and are made of cast brass.

GlassLine

These are hall lanterns and elevator car identifier made of transparent glass. They are very similar to Dewhurst's Blade/UniBlade lanterns.

This is a set of simple looking surface mounted fixtures.

BudgetLine

This is a set of low-cost fixtures designed for high efficiency rather than individuality. These fixtures consists of car station, desk shaped car station, hall/call station, hall indicators (either just an indicator or indicator with lanterns) and hall lanterns. All of these fixtures are flush mounted. The car station is full-height.

There is also a version used for modernization which is known as BudgetLine MOD. For this version, the panels are surface mounted and the car station is partial height, as opposed to the regular version.

SlimLine

This is a set of low profile surface mounted fixtures that are mounted by magnets. These fixtures are always fitted with Style 37 buttons and indicator lamps.

• SlimLine COP 130 / 130 EC - car station (it is unknown what EC means)
• SlimLine COP 230 / 230 EC - larger version of the 130 series car station (it is unknown what EC means)
• SlimLine LIP 130 / 130 EC - hall indicator + lanterns (it is unknown what EC means)

These are explosion proof fixtures.

Pedestal call stations (Columns)

Schaefer makes three different pedestal call stations which are called Columns, they are:

• Quadratic
• Round, 1-piece variant
• Round, 2-piece variant

smart:tableau

These are glass elevator fixtures. There are two versions of these fixtures:

• smart:tableau basic - glass panel with Rainbow Button RB 42 touch sensitive buttons
• smart:tableau touch+ - glass panel with LCD touch screen

STONELINE

These are fixtures with faceplate made of polished natural stone and aluminum honeycomb carrier. These fixtures can be fitted with push buttons or even touch sensitive buttons.

Antique Style

These are vintage designed fixtures made of brass. The dial indicators are part of this fixtures series.

Trivia

• In Canada, the only push buttons and indicator lamps sold in there are the MT 42/MA 42, EB 42/ED 42, VB 42/VD 42, B45 and RT 42/RA 42 series.
