The Otis Elevonic 411 was a mid to high rise elevator model produced by Otis. It was the successor of Otis Elevonic 401. Elevonic 411 was produced from 1989 to 2014.

Overview

Otis Elevonic 411 was launched in 1989 as a successor of the popular Elevonic 401 model, which had been installed more than 8,000 units by the time Elevonic 411 was introduced. It was developed to solve building traffic problems that became increasingly complex than before. Unlike Elevonic 401 which used microcomputers as its control system, Elevonic 411 used microprocessors with variable frequencies and Artificial Intelligence (AI)[1].

Notable features[1]

  • Channeling: A unique patented feature for handling high demands in crowded elevator lobbies by grouping existing building floors into a specified zone or sector. Elevator demands will be managed based on passengers who are going to the same destination (they will board on the same elevator car as well) without having to stop on every floors. Furthermore, if a floor is experiencing a sudden high demand of elevators, one or more elevator(s) will be dispatched to serve that floor. It was also claimed that "channeling feature" could save service time up to 50 or 60 percent.
  • Forecasting: The Artificial Intelligence (AI) "learns" traffic pattern and elevator usage in a single building. It collects the building's elevator condition data (building historical data) and automatically saves it so that it can be processed. The result will then be used by the AI to decide traffic pattern for the next upcoming week. As it collects and saves data from time to time, the AI will change the pattern based on its new experiences (self learning historical analysis).
  • Modular Control: A simplified control design based on building's need. With this, "main control" or "group control panel" previously used in older elevators is no longer needed. Instead, the entire system is divided into several sub systems which would communicate through a certain ordered network. Each elevators would communicate with each other through a system called "modular ring". If an elevator goes out of order for whatever reason, another elevator will take control the lead to maintain elevator service. For example, if a "leading" car is shut down for repair or other reasons, another car will automatically take over the lead and continue the service without interruption. In addition, if a modification were to made there is no need to overhaul the entire system, thus saving time and cost. The sub systems are installed in a series of integrated and organized circuit, with a much simple cable network compared to Elevonic 401.
  • Elevator Management System (EMS): On-site monitoring system which monitors the elevator's condition, status and performance. It also provides additional information relates to the elevators.

Versions

There were two versions of Elevonic 411; one was the regular version for new installs and the other one was Elevonic 411M which was a modernization model for older elevators (also worked for older non-Otis elevators).

Elevonic 411

The Elevonic 411 is a normal high rise elevator model.

Specs:

  • Speed range between 150 m/min and 420 m/min (1990s spec)
  • LAMBDA 3D door sensors, with 56 infrared emitters and detectors.
  • Early Car Announcement (ECA), with Fuzzy Logic dispatching informs passengers which car will answer their call one second after the hall button has been pushed.
  • Series 4 Luxury, rarely Series 5 Standard or very rarely Series 6/5 NEL fixtures for North America only. Early installations may have Lexan (newer), Vanity, Series 1 (older/newer), Series 2 or Series 3 fixtures as an option.
  • Landing signalization interface replaced from parallel to serial, all landing call signals and hall lanterns are handled by serial network, instead of separated wire for each landings used on Elevonic 401.
  • OTISLINE communication system which provides 24 hours dispatching service.
  • Remote Elevator Monitoring (REM) system.
  • Otis Compass destination dispatch system as an option. (Since 2005)

Elevonic 411M

The Elevonic 411M, introduced in 1990, and discontinued in the mid-2010s, is a modernization elevator model designed for mid and high-rise buildings. It replaces the traditional analog selector with a digitally-controlled, primary velocity transducer. It is equipped with Relative System Response Plus (RSR Plus) dispatcher which consistently delivers the shortest waiting times with the minimum number of elevators.

Another version of Elevonic 411M is the E411M-C, which is for upgrading Otis Elevonic 401 systems. Compared to typical Otis modernizations, E411M-C is completed up to 40% faster by retaining several of the elevator's original components. It is also can be completed in stages for building owners who don't have enough budget to complete the entire modernization.

Specs:

  • LAMBDA 3D door sensors, with 56 infrared emitters and detectors.
  • Series 2, Series 4, Series 4 Luxury, and M3 (only for E411M-C in North America as an option) fixtures, other fixtures as an option.
  • OTISLINE communication system which provides 24 hours dispatching service.
  • Remote Elevator Monitoring (REM) system.
  • Otis Compass destination dispatch system as an option, only for E411M-C.
  • EMS Panorama elevator management system as an option.
  • ReGen regenerative drive for E411M-C.
