Elevators Pty. Ltd. (usually abbreviated as EPL and later EPL KONE) was an Australian elevator manufacturer. The company was acquired by Kone in 1986. It also had branch in New Zealand.
History[]

Elevators Pty. Ltd. started out in 1889 as the Sydney & Suburban Hydraulic Power Company in Sydney. In 1926, the company changed its name to Hydraulic Power & Electric Lifts and took over the agency of British elevator company Express Lift in 1923.
In 1955, the company was split into two subsidiaries; Elevators Pty. Ltd. and Hydraulic Power Pty. Ltd. EPL later joined Lend Lease Corporation in 1960. In 1986, Finnish giant Kone acquired EPL a 10% of its holding and by 1989 the company was fully acquired[1]. The reason for this acquisition is because Kone attempted to enter the Australian and New Zealand elevator market. During the merger, it was known as EPL KONE.

Trivia[]
- Elevators Pty. Ltd. had a product licensing with The Express Lift Company, therefore some of their machinery equipments were often labelled with Express Lift's name. An example of this is located at La Lingua Language School, 93 York St, Sydney.[2] In addition, the company was a distributor of Express Lift elevators. EPLs also use an identical door track to Express lifts in other countries. In New Zealand, this can cause difficulties in identifying whether an elevator with these door tracks is Express or EPL.
- In New Zealand, Elevators Pty, Ltd would often install Semag elevators with their brand name on it.
