Elevadores Sûr S/A (or simply known as Elevadores Sûr) was an elevator company based in Porto Alegre, Brazil. It was one of the two major Brazilian elevator companies prior to the 21st century; the other one (and also a competitor) was Elevadores Atlas.
History[]
The company was established in February 4, 1945 by Danilo Lopes in Porto Alegre and originally started as a timepiece manufacturer, until 1964 when the company decided to focus on manufacturing elevators and changed its name to "Elevadores Sûr S/A Industria e Comercio". Between 1974 and 1977, it had a technological partnership with Japanese elevator manufacturer Fujitec, so the design of the elevators was quite similar. In 1994, Sûr produced its 25.000th elevators. It remained independent until September 1999 when Thyssen acquired the company; it became "Thyssen Sûr Elevadores" until 2002 when it changed name to "ThyssenKrupp Elevadores S/A".
List of known elevator fixtures[]
Because Sûr had a technical partnership with Fujitec in the 1970s, the elevator fixtures used from the 1970s to 1990s were based on Fujitec's fixtures. The most prominent ones were the square touch sensitive buttons. Very little is known about Sûr fixtures, and so far only three types have been found in Brazil which are described below here.
Round white buttons and indicators[]
These are white buttons with thick black halo and light up when pressed. The door control and emergency buttons are red with white lettering. The floor indicator is analog with the same set of buttons as the illuminations.
Touch sensitive buttons[]
These are based on the 1970s Fujitec square touch sensitive buttons, with a round metal touch surface in the middle and a glass like illuminating halo which light up white and sometimes green. The door control and emergency buttons have red halo instead of white and does not illuminate. These fixtures are usually accompanied by a simple digital floor indicator with 7 segments display. They were used until the 1990s.

Micro movimento[]
These fixtures consist of small square buttons with a small green light next to them, braille marks and grey letterings on a dark grey colored panel, as well as a digital segmented floor indicator on the top[1]. After the acquisition, Thyssen (and later thyssenkrupp after 2002) continued making these fixtures for a while before they were discontinued.
Trivia[]
- When Elevadores Sûr had a partnership with Fujitec, the company used Fujitec's square touch sensitive buttons on their elevators.[2][3]
