A door closer is a safety device that closes the landing doors on elevators fitted with manually-operated doors such as swing doors. This is not to be confused with a door operator, which is in the cab which does the overall operation. The two major types of door closers are reel closers (also known as a Spirator) and spring assisted arm closers.
