Cemco (also known as Cemcolift) was an elevator company that manufactured and installed elevators.
History[]
Cemco has been around for over nine decades. The furthest date we have found was from 1944 when the company was supposedly founded. The company was founded by William Corbett in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. When William hired Walter Hermann as his assistant in 1954, Walter bought the company and changed the company's name to CEMCO (which stands for Corbett Elevator Manufacturing Company) thirteen years later.
In 1997, Cemco was reincorporated as Cemcolift. They installed the same products as in the 1980s and 1990s. Otis Elevator Company acquired Cemcolift in 1999 making Cemcolift a budget elevator company for Otis. Cemcolift went out of business in 2012. In late 2012 and early 2013, MEI started selling replacement parts for Cemco and Cemcolift elevators. Custom Elevator Manufacturing Co Has also started selling direct replacement parts and is manufacturing identical products.
